How Does a Flush Hand Rank?
In a 52-card deck, there are 5,108 possible Flush hand combinations and 1,277 distinct ranks of Flushes. Each flush is ranked by its highest card, then by the rank of its second-highest card and so on.
Here are some examples of a few flushes:
A♠J♠10♠3♠2♠
K♥10♥7♥5♥2♥
A♣K♣Q♣8♣2♣
Q♦J♦10♦9♦3♦
Can you tell which Flush ranks the best?
Keep in mind that the ranking of a Flush is determined by the highest straight card – not the suit. If more than one player has a Flush, then the winner is determined by the player with the highest straight. So, for example, a King-high Flush – in any suit - beats a Queen-high Flush – in any suit, and so forth.
Also, a K-J-10-5-3 flush would beat a K-J-9-8-3 flush. Notice that in the first hand the third card 10 is higher than the 9 in the second hand. That’s what makes it rank higher.
How Does a Flush Hand Match Up?
A Flush is the fourth best possible hand in the poker hand ranking system. A Full House ranks directly above it. Although 4th on the list, it is still a very strong hand in Hold’em and is rarely beat on the river.
That said, there are still quite a few hands that rank under it. The next best hand down on the list is called a Straight.
The best Straight is the ace-high straight – also known as “Broadway”.

What is 3 Card Brag
3 Card Brag is a card game that has been around since the 16th century.
Originally, players play 3 Card Brag against each other. Everyone gets three cards face-down (hence the name) and needs to bet or fold based on the quality of their hand.
The betting continues until two players remain. Then it’s showdown time. The player with the highest hand wins the pot.

How to Play 3 Card Brag at a Casino
Of course, the classic gameplay changes a bit when the game moves to Casinos.
You don’t play against other players anymore - you play against the dealer.
What does it mean?
You need to beat only one opponent - the dealer.
But you won’t be able to bluff your way out of a bad hand.
At the same time, you won’t lose against worse hands because the dealer won’t be bluffing either.
3 Card Brag Rules
The game still involves only one standard (52-card) deck. You can join the game by placing an ante bet on the table.
Then, both you and the dealer gets three cards each.
You need to make a choice:
- to play,
- to fold.
Choose to play? You have faith in your hand and make one more bet - the play bet. It’s the same size as your ante.
If your ante was $1, your play bet is $1, and the total bet sums up to $2.
Choose to fold? You assume your hand is too weak to win and you surrender your ante bet. No additional bets are made.
If you fold, the game is over.
You can place another ante once you want to play again.
If you play, you get to see the dealer’s cards and find out if your hand wins.
Like many Casino Poker games (e.g. Caribbean Poker or Casino Hold'em), for the game to play out, the dealer needs to qualify.
In 3 Card Poker, the dealer qualifies with a Queen High or better hand.

3 Card Brag Hand Ranks and Payouts
What does it mean to have a higher hand in 3 Card Brag?
It needs to be higher in rank than your opponent’s hand.
The order of hands goes as follows (from highest to lowest):
- Prial (Three of a Kind)
- Running Flush (Straight Flush)
- Run (Straight)
- Flush
- Pair
- High
Those are the biggest differences between Three Card Poker and 3 Card Brag: the highest ranking hand and the names of hands. In Three Card Poker the highest hand is the Straight Flush, in 3 Card Brag - Three of a Kind (Prial).
It’s similar to Poker games but since you get only three cards, there are fewer winning hands involved. Obviously, you cannot make a Four of a Kind with only three cards.
Also, the names of the hands change, too.
Landed ? It’s not a Straight anymore. In 3 Card Brag, it’s called a Run.
If it happens to be in the same suit (e.g. ), it’s a Running Flush.
The same way Three of a Kind becomes a Prial.
Another catch there is that is the Highest Prial. Only then follows and the usual hands in order.
How does it all payout?
Generally, both ante and play bets pay 1 to 1.
But if you have an exceptionally good hand (Run or better), you can win an extra bonus for your ante bet. Even when you lose the play bet.
That’s right - you win ante bet even if your hand is lower than the dealers.
Your Hand | Ante Bonus Payout |
---|---|
Prial | 5 to 1 |
Running Flush | 4 to 1 |
Run | 1 to 1 |
3 Card Brag Pair Bonus
One more bet you can make is Pair Bonus bet.
It’s an optional bet that you win if your hand is a Pair or better.
It also doesn’t depend on the dealer’s hand - you can win Pair Bonus even if you lose your play bet.
Your Hand | Pair Bonus Payout |
---|---|
Prial | 40 to 1 |
Running Flush | 30 to 1 |
Run | 6 to 1 |
Flush | 4 to 1 |
Pair | 1 to 1 |
